A Unified Path Forward

The Humber region is navigating a critical period of transformation, driven by the intertwined forces of devolution, decarbonisation, and diversification. The region stands at the forefront of the UK’s industrial evolution, leveraging its unique assets to redefine what it means to be an industrial powerhouse in the 21st century. Humber’s ambition is not merely to adapt to change but to lead it—to become the world’s first Net Zero industrial region.

A Region in Transition

Humber’s journey is set against the backdrop of significant shifts in governance and global energy dynamics. Devolution will bring fresh powers to both sides of the Humber Estuary.

As the UK’s largest carbon-emitting region, the Humber is uniquely positioned to lead the charge in the transition to Net Zero. This is not just an environmental imperative but a strategic opportunity.

Humber must also diversify, expanding its narrative to encompass not only its industrial prowess but also its rich cultural, natural, and social assets. The place brand for Humber needed to capture and communicate this diversity, creating a narrative that resonates with all its communities.

Overcoming Perception & Connectivity Barriers

One of the key challenges Humber faces is shifting perceptions—both within and outside the region. For too long, Humber has struggled to attract and retain skilled professionals, with employers facing significant difficulties in filling senior roles and retaining young talent. The region’s industrial identity, while strong, has often felt disconnected from its citizens, making it difficult to foster a sense of pride. Political fragmentation has further complicated this issue.

Building a Shared Vision

Working with long-term collaborators, CTConsults, we embarked on an extensive consultation and engagement process. This included comprehensive desk research, interactive two-day workshops with nearly 300 participants, 44 one-to-one interviews, insights from 92 thinktank delegates, and feedback from 665 survey respondents across the UK and globally. Additionally, sentiment analysis and competitor comparisons highlighted the Humber’s strengths, challenges, and unique opportunities.

Values & Brand Filter – A Story of Possibility & Promise

Brand Visual Language

The visual language is crafted to be bold, confident, and modern, encapsulating the region’s forward-thinking ambitions and reflecting the region’s revolutionary spirit, while acknowledging its rich industrial heritage.

The design approach is stark yet dynamic, allowing messaging to be conveyed with clarity and consistency.

To ensure that this identity is consistently applied across all platforms, the brand guidelines provide a comprehensive toolkit with flexible templates, allowing for creative yet coherent implementation.
