As you would imagine we are interested in and have a passion for the history of fashion. Here we show some historical pics of Wayne and shamelessly big up a book we put out.
I am loving the new book; The Bag I’m in: Underground Music and Fashion in Britain 1960-1990 by Sam Knee. It documents youth cults by using lo-fi pics taken by mainly non professional photographers and then at the end of the book has some wonderful illustrations by Florence Bamberger.
I was lucky enough to be in my teens and 20s and live through / be part of so many of these subcultures. In 1973 I went to see David Bowie as a 12 year old nascent glam rocker.
Top row from left to right: 1. Wayne and mum Maureen, 2. Northern soul boy (how did I get into Wigan Casino as a fresh faced 13 year old in 1974?) 3. Disco Soul Boy in 1976. 4. Then punk in 1976.
Bottom row from left to right: 1. Indie Kid (Wayne in his band in 1979), 2. A smiling sideways take on Goth in 1980, 3. A Rare Groover in 1981, 4. And a Raver (with Jack – the first born in 1987)
The second great book is The Vintage Fashion Bible by Wayne Hemingway (Author), Gerardine Hemingway (Author), Hannah Wing (Editor). So some unashamed promotion here. The book covers all the looks in The Bag I’m In and more:
